Measure water by weight - use a digital kitchen scale. For 122-130 °F water, microwave required cold water for 30 seconds. Butter for filling must be unsalted, and at room temp ( i.e. soft). Cold butter will not work. Use dairy free unsalted butter to make dairy free macarons. Buttercream will become clumpy right after butter is added. Continue whipping until smooth. Electric Handheld Mixer Instructions Add cookie mix and water to a deep, clean bowl. Whip at the slowest speed setting for 3.5 minutes. Use a spatula to collect batter, folding 2-3 times. Pipe and Bake. Ensure all equipment is clean and free of oils. Baking Instructions Macaron Shells Empty cookie mix into mixer bowl & add food coloring. Add water at 122°F-130°F (see package for amount). Mix at low speed for 1 minute, then 3-5 minutes at medium speed. Pipe in 1-inch rounds. Recommend using a silicone tray liner. Tap tray to flatten Let rounds rest for 15 minutes, bake at 300°F for 15-16 minutes. Let cookies rest and cool down completely before handling. Macaron Buttercream Filling Add 2 ounces (1/4 cup) hot water ( 160°F ) to buttercream mix and whip on high speed until meringue is stiff and shiny (4-5 minutes). Whip in 1.25 sticks of room temp unsalted butter. Whip for one minute on high or until buttercream is silky and smooth. The mixture will be clumpy at first but will become smooth. Cold butter will not work. Food coloring and flavoring can be added at this stage. Whip for 30 seconds to incorporate. Use a pastry bag to place buttercream filling between the macaron cookies. They are delicious just like this and there is really no need to add flavoring or coloring. Macarons are perfect for special moments with friends and family. Flavoring & Coloring Macarons You can experiment with flavoring and coloring the buttercream filling. Many bakers choose to only flavor the filling and leave the macaron shells unflavored so the tasty filling can shine! For coloring either the macaron shells or the filling we recommend powdered food coloring. Get creative with your fillings! Some ideas for additions to buttercream are extracts such as rose, lavender, chocolate, almond, vanilla, or raspberry. Consider other flavorings such as matcha tea, coffee, Irish cream, Kahlua, Grand Marnier , caramel , mint, or pistachio. You might consider jam as a filling! For flavoring the macaron shells, you may add a small amount of ground nuts, coconut, coffee, and spices to the cookie batter towards the end of mixing. How about sprinkles or poppy seeds? Macarons can also be dipped in dark or white chocolate or drizzled with caramel and chocolate. The possibilities are endless. Resting, Maturation & Serving Did you know that macarons improve after a day or two of resting in a refrigerator or freezer? This is referred to as maturation. So plan ahead and refrigerate the filled cookies a day ahead and then serve at room temperature. It takes about 4-5 hours to defrost and return to room temp. Macarons can successfully be kept frozen for several months. Once filled and matured for a day, they will do well for a few days at room temp if they are kept covered. To get a distinct shiny-looking surface, freeze the filled macarons in a tightly covered container for a couple of days. Now you are in the know! I can’t believe how these turned out! They were amazing! Easy to follow directions and simple to make. I gave it a 4 star review overall because I didn’t care for the frosting mix that came with it. I made a simple buttercream frosting for them and it was great.I bought this mix to learn how to make macarons in a sort of "safe" way. Think of it as "training wheels" if you are on the path to learning how to make them from absolute scratch, or if you want to get them right with in a few tries. Or if you are a business and don't want to mess with a lot of details, this will work great. If you follow their instructions as closely as possible, taking into account your own equipment - mixer, oven, environment where you are making the macarons - you will do well. I'd advise buying several kits, to figure out what works well for your setup. It took me three tries to get it right, and I own a commercial kitchen. Every person's environment is different, and for macarons it is a big deal, and part of the fun challenge to get them right. And... CHECK YOUR OVEN TEMPS, and use a digital timer for mixing and baking so you get it right. One minute off of mixing, or two minutes off of baking will ruin the batch. It's crucial to getting it right! : )Try not so much my preferenceIf anyone attempted to bake macarons, you would know how easy it is to mess up. I have tried to make my own batch of macaron for the longest time but haven’t achieve the right results- my cookies came out flat and dont have any feet. Super disappointing but then I came upon this box of easy macaron mix and the result is sorcery! I can’t believe how easy it was to follow the instructions on the box via only adding water to the macaron cookie mix and also just water and butter for the macaron filling mix, and I actually achieved making macarons with feet and it tastes really good! It’s amazing!! I highly recommend purchasing this product because it really works and I didn’t really try too hard. This is the secret to making a failproof macaron! I was able to get a batch of 26 cookies which is more than worth it for the boxed mix price of $16 bucks. Usually a cookie can range around $2-$3 at the stores.Additional helpful products to use with the mix- stand mixer with the whisk and paddle attachments, gel food coloring (I used pink), and sandwich bags to pipe the macaron cookies and the filling.Easy instructions, not hard to follow! Product came out so pretty! Everything (ingredient wise) pre measured and ready to use! My granddaughter enjoyed making these.Easy to put together - the flavor is good. Nothing to write home about but definitely hit the spot.First of all, this product is super user friendly. The macarons would have turned out great if I had not messed them up. Apparently, wax paper cannot double as baking sheets??? I am sure everyone knew that but I am an idiot and do not bake much. I also mixed the batter too thick, which made the piping difficult. The buttercream is super good, just make sure it is thick enough before use. I will get the product again and hopefully, they will be beautiful this time! :)Macarons are a fussy difficult cookie to make. This mix simplified the process and was successful on the first try. Love it. I ordered some raspberry compound and used it to flavor the filling included in the mix. The cookies were a hit with my entire family.
